Fernando Méndez es Director de Productos Emergentes a cargo del las actividades relacionadas con tarjetas inteligentes de Visa Inc. para la Región de America Latina y el Caribe. Dentro de sus responsabilidades se encuentran el desarrollo de estrategias para incentivar la adopción de los productos emergentes y las nuevas tecnologías de Visa, incluyendo el desarrollo de la infraestructura de tarjetas inteligentes EMV así como de las tarjetas de pago sin contacto.

Con más de 21 años de experiencia en la industria de medios de pago, el Sr. Mendez ha trabajado en otras áreas de desarrollo de negocio apoyando a la región del Caribe y en el área de Sistemas de Visa en México. Anteriormente, fue responsable del sistema de autorizaciones de tarjeta de crédito de Bancomer, uno de los mayores bancos en México.

El Sr. Méndez tiene un título de Ingeniería Cibernética y Ciencias de la Computación de la Universidad La Salle en México. Además, cuenta con estudios de educación ejecutiva en mercadeo de nuevas tecnologías de la escuela de negocios de Harvard en Boston, Estados Unidos.

Actualmente desempeña el cargo de Director del Consejo de Medios de Pago para América Latina del ‘Smart Card Alliance’.

Edgar Betts is the Associate Director for Latin America of the Smart Card Alliance. The Smart Card Alliance is a non profit, non partisan, multi-industry association of over 150 member organizations, working to accelerate the widespread acceptance of smart cards technology in the Americas. He came to the Alliance on March 2005 to help develop and complete the MDCP grant that the Alliance received for Latin America. In June of 2005, he worked with key organizations to create the Smart Card Alliance Latin American (SCALA) Chapter. In February 1st, 2006 Edgar Betts was appointed Associate Director for Latin America of the Smart Card Alliance. In 2007 Edgar was named by the Junior Chamber International of Panama the most influential person in Science & Technology. In 2010 Mr. Betts was also named among the 40 most influential people under 40 by Capital Financiero in Panama.

Prior to joining the Smart Card Alliance, Edgar Betts was the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Smart Card Division (03) for Integra Group Corporation based in Panama City, Republic of Panama. The mission of his Division was to promote, distribute, and implement smart card and RFID systems in Central America and the Caribbean Region.

In 2002, Edgar Betts worked under the Director of Electronic Business Technologies at the U.S. General Service Administration (GSA). During this time he worked on the promotion of electronic business technologies and government policies for the United States Government and the North Dakota Government Rural Outreach (NDGRO) Project.

Edgar Betts is a graduate of Florida State University with a B.A. in Economics and International Affairs. He communicates fluently in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, which allows him to effectively convey and promote the Smart Card Alliance throughout the region of the Americas.

Sales Director - Payment and New Business at Giesecke & Devrient (GDBurti) responsible for EMV migration in the region, Innovative projects and Security transactional ones. Computer Engineer graduated on Escola Politécnica - USP in São Paulo, Consultant on EDS Dallas - USA for one year, has high level experience on international companies: - Financial Institutions as Lloyds Bank, System Integrators as Algar Bull/Integris and Consulting Companies as EDS. She has been involved on Smart Cards community since 16 years ago and took part of the very first EMV projects in Brazil and is close to the market requirements and to the future trends. She is responsible for the first/biggest NFC, key fobs and Dual interface projects and together with her team, is a sponsor of the future technologies on the smart card payment market.

Humberto de la Vega’s professional experience includes Cybernetics Engineering at La Salle University, Mexico D.F. and Lost Control Specialty at Water Research Center, Great Yarmouth, England. From 1981 through 1985, he studied at the Mathematics, Computers and System Center, La Salle University, Mexico D.F. and worked as an Analyst and an Administrative Systems Chief.

He was founder the Founder and General Director from 1986 through 1997 at DICSA, Mexico, D.F., a company specializing in biometric applications. From 1997 through 1999, he worked as Latin America Sales Manager at Recognition Systems, Inc. of San Jose, CA, USA. He is currently at HID Global of Irvine, CA, USA and has served as Regional Sales Manager Latin America and the Caribbean, Director of Business Development, Director of Sales Latin America and the Caribbean, and currently serves as Vice President of Sales, Latin America and the Caribbean.

He also has experience as a columnist in various magazines related to technology and security, and has been published different countries.

Mr. Tenaglia joined GET Group’s Passport and ID Solutions on Feb 3rd, 2009 as the Director of Sales Operations for Latin America & Caribbean Regions, responsible for managing and growing business-to-business as well as business-to-government contracts in this region, reporting to the International Sales Director and the President – Mr. Gary Christelis.

Vince joined GET from L1 Identity Solutions–NYSE (formerly Digimarc Corp-NASDAQ.), where he served as Sr. Director of Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean Regions. Vince was a key leader responsible and accountable for overseeing the Go-To-Market strategies and initiatives since 2006, including and not limited to products, sales, services, manufacturing, and government relations activities in the region, successfully yielding new customer pipeline, bid/contracts, renewals with triple digit growth in revenues and contribution margins during his tenure.

Prior to L1 Identity Solutions, Vince achieved consistent success at GE (NYSE) from 1989 to 2005, fulfilling increasing senior key management roles. He served as a Sr. Manager for GE Healthcare Technologies, leading and establishing various new programs for Latin America, such as: The First Trade Finance & Financial Services; Product Sales Marketing for Leased and Reconditioned Capital Assets; Acquisition-Integrations and Government Sales Relations. In addition, he served as a key global funding leader and co-leader in several global assignments and was privileged to receive continuous and extensive senior executive training programs at GE Jack Welch University, during his tenure. Vince was a champion and earlier adopter of Jack’s Six Sigma programs since 1997 and certified from GE accordingly.

Before GE, Vince was a Sr. Financial Planning and Analysis Manager at a bank holding company in Miami during the Savings and Loan crisis, with outstanding success. He holds a Master of International Business degree from Nova Southeastern University, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University with pre-engineering studies and high school from New York schools.

Vince was born in Argentina of Italian parents, lived in many countries, speaks several languages and has an extensive multi-cultural affinity. He is easily reachable at the GET Group USA office in Boston or Miami area, where he provides fast customer response time.

Randy Vanderhoof is the Executive Director of the Smart Card Alliance. The Smart Card Alliance is a not-for-profit, multi-industry association of over 180 member firms working to accelerate the widespread acceptance of smart card technology in North America and Latin America. He came to the Alliance in January, 2002 and became the Executive Director in August, 2002. During his tenure as the chief executive, he has directed the transformation of the organization from primarily a networking organization into a diverse, education oriented, international, multi-industry organization that gathers industry stakeholders together to help stimulate the rapid adoption of all forms of smart cards (cards and other form factors) for electronic payments and digital security applications. In December 2008, Randy was named by Security Magazine to the list of the Top 25 Most Influential People in the Security Industry.

Prior to joining the Smart Card Alliance, he was employed with IBM Global Smart Card Solutions; an international product group supporting IBM’s smart card services to its global banking, healthcare, and government industry vertical teams. Previously, he served as on the Executive Board for the Alliance as a corporate member from 1998–2001. From 2000 to 2001, he was Vice President Business Development with First Access, Inc. a developer of contactless smart card technology for network access security and authentication. From 1995 to 2000, he worked at Schlumberger (now Gemalto) as Market Segment Manager, Campus Solutions supporting the development and marketing of smart card–based identification and payment systems.

Randy is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA with a BS in Management Marketing. He received his MBA from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.

Cathy Medich is Director of Strategic Programs for the Smart Card Alliance. In this role, she manages strategic marketing and industry initiatives and directs all industry council activities, including the definition of new projects, the management of project teams, and the development of messaging and marketing programs to promote council positions in the industry.

As an independent consultant with over 20 years of experience in marketing and strategic planning for technology businesses, Cathy has completed projects for Hewlett-Packard, Diversinet, NACHA, Zantaz, Securify, ePatterns, RadarGolf, ViVOtech and VeriSign. Prior to launching her consulting practice, Cathy was Vice President of Product Marketing for PaymentNet (now part of PayPal), an Internet payment services startup. From 1996 to 1998, she served as Director of Marketing for VeriFone, managing marketing activities for VeriFone’s Internet Commerce Division and next generation Integrated Payment System.

From 1994 through 1996, Cathy was the founding Executive Director of CommerceNet, a non-profit industry association whose members were pioneers in Internet electronic commerce applications and usage. Prior to 1994, Cathy was the Division Engineering Manager for Teradyne in Walnut Creek, CA. She also held senior product marketing and strategic planning positions at both Teradyne and General Electric.

Cathy has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T. and an M.B.A. from the Wharton Graduate School.
