CPI Card Group Joins Keycorp in a Partnership With Banamex and McDonald's to Launch the First Mastercard Paypass Program in Latin America

LITTLETON, CO November 6, 2006–Colorado, Inc. announced today it has partnered with Keycorp Limited (ASX:KYC) to manufacture MasterCard’s PayPass™ contactless cards for Banamex Financial Group. The issued cards will be introduced into McDonald’s fast food outlets throughout Monterrey, Mexico. This joint effort will mark the first PayPass program launched in Latin America and will put Banamex in the lead of contactless card issuers in Mexico.

Smart Cards Lose Out on U.S. Border-Crossing Project

The U.S. government has decided against using contactless smart card technology in a new identification card that U.S. citizens will be able to use instead of a passport when returning from Canada and Mexico. Instead, the card will contain a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip of the type used to track cartons and palettes during shipment, says Frank Moss, deputy assistant secretary of state for passport services.
